Kanha National Park enjoys an average annual rainfall of approximately 1,600 mm. Thre are three seasons: cool and dry ( November - February ) warm to hot ( March - June), and rains ( July - October ).

Winter Season : During the cool season, frost often occurs in the valley meadows areas, with temperatires ranging from a low of -2°C. at night to a high of 32°C. during the day. In november, the kans grasses flowering along the nallahs 9 gullies or stream beds ) and in marshy areas present a lovely sight. Spider webs glisten and wildflowers abound. During the month of January, many trees shed their leaves.

Spring Season : By the end of february, spring has arrived in Kanha. Pallas and silk cotton or semal tress splash the landscape with their brillaint orange flowers, and birds celebrate the blosooms' nectar in profusion.

Summer Season : As daytime temperatures steadily climb to highs of 40° - 45° C. in May, the grasses begin to wither. sal tress flush, however, with their new, surf-green leaves. April is perhaps the park's most colourful month, with many trees species in flower. Rainfall is generally low during this period.

Monsoon season : The monsoon, during which Kanha recieves the bulk of its annual rainfall, swiftly converts the forest from yellow and brown to green. New grasses sprout and grow quickly, reaching a height of more than two feet in July - August. Orchids and creepers proliferate on the forest floor, and the young of gaur, sambar, and barasingha are born into a land of plenty.
